Time: Feb 22, 2024 06:00AM - 07:00AM Hawaii Time
Host Chapter: PMI-LA
Description:
From the experience and occasional failures comes a realization that an organization’s culture and strategy for change are the keys to successful change adoption and sustainability.
The best results occur in organizations where the culture motivates people to operate with a growth mindset;, which includes healthy doses of learning, taking calculated risks, adaptation, innovation, and leading by example.
These organizations approach change based on a consistent, change strategy that’s customized to work for them. There are clear roles and responsibilities, and ongoing engagement and communications are encouraged and executed. Decisions are made with input from those impacted.
The process of guiding people through change is built into the organization’s fabric.
These organization have a competitive advantage to:
- Attract the top talent
- Meet growth and performance goals
- Adapt faster to ongoing external environment changes
Learning Objectives:
- Why is change management important to projects?
- What are the Theory, Techniques, and Tools to guide people through change?
- How to manage resistance to change?
- What are the criteria to help integrate change management into projects?
Speaker: Jeff Panning, PMP, ACP
Jeff Panning, PMP, ACP has led projects most of his career and has held the title of project manager officially since the early 2000’s. He moved from a regional distribution business to a Fortune 500 global building supply company to gain more experience in larger, more complex projects. He’s worked mainly in the IT arena and has experience in manufacturing and engineering project management. His projects have used both waterfall and agile methodologies.
Jeff was the former President of the PMI Western Lake Erie chapter in Toledo, OH in the earlier 2000’s. He currently serves as the chapter’s VP of Communications.
He has presented to chapter meetings on the topics of Project Manager as a Facilitator and Strategies for Making Changes Stick and is currently working to develop a half-day PDD session on Change Management.
Based on his biography, you could say Jeff’s been in the business of CHANGE. Getting people from point A to point B, and from the current-state to a future-state, whether it's been related to software, hardware, processes, services, or team culture.
Some project outcomes have been better than others. Some change adoption has been better than others. Admittedly, there have been failures in projects and change adoption.

What is a Multi-Chapter Meeting/Webinar?
This is a new program in collaboration with PMI-LA and other chapters to pool resources and share the burden of putting on virtual PDU webinars. As of this writing, PMI-HI plans to add this to our existing programing, not replace our usual luncheon event. For more about Multi-Chapter Meetings/Webinars, click the read more.
